In the past, very little effort was given to interface design since it was considered to be too tedious. Nowadays, with the arrival of more and more user interface design tools and more advanced technology, the paradigm has shifted towards making the usability quotient of interfaces more prominent.

User Interface Design Tools for User Interface Designing

As a web designer, it is your role to create a balance between various elements and features in order to make your website more appealing and effective. Simplicity and ease of use are still key points, but should also serve as the bedrock for more features. Generous spacing, clear division of sections, and the effective use of colors are concepts that will not go away. However, with the new user interface design tools you can now set the tone for an improved user experience.

1. Usability Inspection

One of the user interface design tools that can be used is usability inspection. It focuses on techniques which are used to evaluate problems on interface usability. It is meant to spot and address problems on usability at an earlier phase. In technical terms, it utilizes heuristic evaluation of the dialogue factor to see if it is in sync with other usability principles. This is done by a walk-through while inspecting and evaluating all of the features. It then sets aside the possible difficult steps and creates scenarios where it might fail.

2. Padded Links

Another aspect where user interface design tools should be used is to explore padded links. These links are meant to show more content and takes the user to a different destination in the page. The clickable link size and space has pre-set parameters but the size can be increased through padding. It can also be chaned to a block element in order to make identification easier.

3. Visual Appeal

User interface design was primarily created to increase visual appeal in websites. One of the areas of focus that it addresses is color. Color contrasts have always been applied to make a site or page attractive to the reader or visitor. Even in print media, elements or information which require the most attention are highlighted in color, or given some other treatment to stand out. For example, some headlines or texts can be boxed or framed to draw attention. You can use different tools to explore and play with colors and contrasts. Textures can also be applied for an enhanced visual effect.

4. UI Element Separation

User Interface elements should be separated to improve the readability of the text. This is done by inserting white spaces in order for these elements to not appear too close to another. Distance and distinction should be applied in order to keep paragraphs separate. Even adjusting the spaces between the letters in a word can be done through tracking. You need to use CSS and its letter spacing property.

You will be surprised at how simple adjustments can make a big difference in the quality of your design.
